Tow bar for Citroen C5 Aircross 2022 model

Unread post by Blueboy6103 »

Hi All can I take a moment to pick your brains
I have a Citroen 2022 C5 Aircross. I would like a tow bar fitted but cannot get a definitive answer from my Citroen dealership.
Is there a special tow bar for the C5 Aircross that can be fitted without having to cut into the rear bumper bar ?.

If you can provide your VIN I will check the accessories specifically for your model (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

There are lots of options - depending on whether you have a Hybrid or standard petrol / diesel, but all theones I have seen do NOT show the need to cut the bumper - they are all designed to fit under as in this example:

Hope someone here can advise me - we have ordered a C5 Aircross (2023) which we expect to arrive soon, and when it does we'll be getting a tow bar fitted.

Ideally I'd like a fixed tow bar (not detachable) but I can't work out where the rear parking sensors are or if a fixed tow bar will interfere with parking sensors.

Does anyone know if the factory fitted tow bar is a fixed or detachable model, or does anyone have a fixed towbar that can advise?

Cheers all - probably the first of many questions I'll post here!

Citroen do a range of towbars for the C5 Aircross, including fixed Swan's Neck and removable ones (that can be removed in seconds that don't require any tools to remove). These are specific to the vehicle and do not interfere with the parking assistance operation.

However, there are some versions where the ball must be removed for correct operation of the rear parking assistance.

There are specific versions for Petrol / Diesel engines and the Hybrid versions of the vehicle, so best to check which you require. Also, the OEM electrical wiring kits supplied by Citroen including the fusebox are are specifically designed for the vehicle's electrical systems, and work with the ESP systems to provide a programme designed to adapt automatically when towing. When towing these kits often deactivate the parking assistance at the rear automatically. They also provide electrical kits for towing trailers or caravans with LED lights.

So when you have your vehicle and the VIN, post back here and I can provide a bit more info on the Citroen kits - or speak to your dealer.

Thanks Marc that's helpful - based on how long it took the dealer to confirm the towing capacity of the car, I don't know if he'd be able to locate the specific information about whether a fixed towbar will interfere with the reversing sensors! It wasn't his fault - the information was very difficult to find and he searched for ages. So when I know the VIN I'll come back here.

I guess I should explain why I'm so keen on a fixed tow ball if possible - I have a number of accessories (e.g. bike carrier) that can only be used with a flange towbar, and I'd like to be able to keep using them. Unless someone here has different information, it looks like there are no detachable flange towbars for the C5 Aircross available. Also, no matter how easy it is to fit and remove a detachable towbar, it still involves kneeling, and my knees have reached the age that the more I can avoid kneeling the happier I am!

No worries, Citroen also do towbar-mounted bike carriers for 2,3 or 4 bikes which are made by Thule, so I would expect them to be compatible with the towbars they supply.

Hi,on my C5 X7, I have an aftermarket Swan neck detachable towbar (Umbra Rimochi). I have never towed anything heavier than about a ton, (8x4 trailer loaded with soil). I also use witter ZX200 two bike, cycle rack, when loaded with both bikes it gets very near its 34kg limit.

Now it does sway a bit at speed (motorway) when viewed in a wing mirror, but nothing that affects control, meaning I don't feel it on the steering.
I also fitted the Citroen towing electric pack and I think that helps with body control.
