Morning all
Anyone be able to advise (is getting increasingly difficult to find decent garages in my neck of the woods.) Have a Xsara Picasso 2.0 auto with a very loud whining A/C compressor, or at least I presume it is as the noise stops as soon as you turn a/c off.
I reckon the car needs a timing belt as I don't know when it was last done (has done 118,000k). Does it make sense to do the two things at the same time/are they connected? Someone told me this engine has only one belt so does that mean the timing belt goes around the compressor?
Many thanks, Carl

There will be 2 belts - the external auxiliary serpentine belt which drives the PAS / AC / Alternator and the internal timing belt that drives the cams and the water pump. The aux belt needs to come off to do the timing belt, so it makes sense to replace it as part of the job. However, no need to remove the tensioner or AC compressor, but there is some cross over of work so it will be a bit more effective to do them at the same time.
