My 'new' daily C5 Estate

Unread post by Orbit Motors »

Picked up what I consider to be a bargain this week, to use as a stop gap car while I decide what to do with my C6 which now needs several parts that I'm not in a position to do immediately.

A 2006 C5 Wagon, 2.2 HDi, with 132k on the clock, for £995, which barely buys anything as it is in these extraordinary times.

It has a year's MOT which is a bonus, and had an engine that seems very responsive.

Is there anything I should be keeping an eye out for? The only issues I've found have been very minor in the grand scheme of things, and even if I spend some money on it over the next year if I decide to keep it, it is still value for money. The only things I've found so far:

- There is a slight clutch pedal vibration at almost the top when idling. No unusual pedal feel other than this and it sounds normal with pedal in or out, so I'm hoping it isn't a DMF issue. Gear changes are very smooth and no issues shifting at all. Maybe this is normal?

- Passenger seatbelt warning is on even with the seat unoccupied, I've just temporarily fixed this by keeping the belt plugged in.

- Nearside window doesn't seem to want to calibrate, it just goes up slightly at a time. Tried the usual trick of holding the switch up for a few seconds after it has closed to resync which in the past has usually worked for me but not this time. Not really that bothered as the air conditioning is ice cold so the windows are usually shut!

What other bargains have people picked up recently? Seems to be some outrageous pricing going on with used cars, even taking increased demand in to account.
Cheers,

If it just about starts and drives, I'll probably buy it.

Not recently, but I have had 3 cars for under £100 which have given tremendous service, two of them to this very day. A 03 Reg Clio 1.2 in a gorgeous blue picked up right place right time and a bit of cheek for 6 bottles of wine and looking more of a classic every day, and still providing good service in the family maintenance fleet, and the petrol half of my detached hybrid arrangements to complement my Nissan Leaf, a Nissan Micra K12 05 reg, £100 again right place right time.

I opened a thread "Bargain Basement Motoring" when I originally bought the Clio and post time to time on the thread both the odd bits of maintenance and the other side of having a car the "motoring fo pleasure" bit with odd photos of the bargain basement vehicles in scenic locations :-D

The thread is here quite a few pages on it too

You may be surprised to know that the original "tab-packet" calculations talking myself into something I wanted to do anyway, have been more than matched, and running and financing a £10,000 initial purchase Leaf, have proved to be cheaper then the fuel costs alone doing a similar mileage with a £100 bargain Basement Micra. I did have the early adopter advantage of zero-cost charging up on-the-road costs in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders for a couple of years as both NCC and Chargeplace Scotland chargers were free to use. Now it's half the cost of the petrol equivalent when charging at home, and a pretty much even-steven price with petrol now for on-the-road charging.

I have bought a C3 to replace my daughter's dead one that was very cheap but more than twice the cost of your C5.
Chap over the road just brought a gleaming Jaguar FX home. £3,500! Either a 58 or 59 reg.
