2013 Citroen C3 1.6 eHDi P0405

Unread post by William212627 »

Hello all,

Around a month ago I had replaced the EGR Valve on my 2013 Citroen C3 1.6 eHDi after being told by a garage that it was stuck open. I replaced the part and used Diagbox to calibrate it to the car. All was well for around a month until the engine light came on when I started the car. I scanned the car with Diagbox and it revealed the code P0405 and if I remeber correctly this was something about the EGR valve position being unreadable.

Anyway after using the car as it was for a few days I did an actuator test on the EGR valve and I could hear it working, so I reset the code and was able to see that the posisiton percentage was being detected on the live monitoring parameters and changed as the car's revs changed. I was able to use the car for about a week with no issues and the engine light stayed off. That was until yesterday when the same issue has reoccured.

I'm wondering would this indicate that the replacement EGR valve I got was faulty, or could it be something much more complicated than that?

Many thanks for any help you can provide!

William.

Where did you get the replacement EGR valve from? Was it Euro Car Parts by any chance? Always get a good quality branded one if you can.

Here's the fault code description.
Fault Code: P0405
Description of Fault: Measurement of the position of the EGR valve: Open circuit or short circuit to earth. Voltage less than 0,3 V for 500 ms.
Conditions for Fault to clear:
  • Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
Symptoms:
  • Noise
  • Slightly higher fuel consumption
  • Smoke from the exhaust
  • Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine (Vehicle equipped with "stop and start")
Suspect Areas:
  • Exhaust gas recycling valve
  • Electrical harness
  • Connectors
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Hi Marc

Thank you for the information that's very helpful. It was from GSF Car parts but probably wasn't of the highest quality. Lesson learnt.

The code has ended up clearing itself now so I suspect it probably is the EGR valve. I'll wait and see if it comes back which I'm sure it will.

Thanks.
