DPF risk message and front end lowering by 1-2cm when car turned off

Unread post by ivancro96 »

Hi again,

So, sometimes when I accelerate (mainly to highway speeds), I get a SERVICE light on and a message on the small screen "Risk of DPF clogging", and it turns off after 30 seconds (both). This happens 5/10 times and it's annoying, even though I mainly do highway driving nowadays.

Another thing, is it normal for the front to lower by 1-2cm when I turn off the car? It of course raises itself when turned on, just wondering.

Don't know what car you have but the dpf is warning you that you are driving to nicely. You really need to get the revs up for a period of time so the dpf can burn off the bad stuff

Yes it can lower by that amount.

Even when doing motorway speeds, the DPF can become clogged - it has a finite life. There are components from the Cerine, engine deposits and ash that can't be burned off, requiring ultimate replacement or deep cleaning of the particle filter. If the warning is coming on an off, then the differential pressure sensors are likely detecting a build up of pressure, which then clears after a partial regeneration and then repeats. If the particle filter is getting any where from 70%+ full then regeneration can become ineffective and it's time for a good clean or replacement.

How many miles has the car done?

Sorry it's a 2012 C5 2.0 HDI (103kw)

It's got 188000km as of now.

I also wonder, where exactly is the DPF located? A DPF removal also isn't a bad idea, unless it's visible under the car

Removal definitely not recommended, Halfords do a dpf flush for £85, I'd give that ago first. Then look at a replacement if that doesn't work, they aren't the cheapest part to replace.

Why not recommended? Genuine question, since it seems pretty much everyone says a DPF delete along with EGR is better for engine longevity. That is basically why I considered it

It is illegal in Europe to remove emissions equipment and we don't support that on the Forum, plus you can void your insurance cover by doing so..... That's what the idiot garages on the internet don't tell you until they've taken your money and left you with a car not legally allowed on the road.

Best to clean it and or replace it.

At 188k Kms you are near end of service life.

I am from Croatia so a road legal car is basically a suggestion here.

But yes a DPF clean is a good option, replacing one for new is way too expensive though. Also regarding the warranty, no need to worry for that 😅

Thank you for your help :)
