Hello again,
My partners C5 rear suspension has now started dropping to its lowest setting when ever she parks the car. It also pops (quite loudly) when it starts to rise to the normal ride height (which has always seems es too high to me!)
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I've split this off into a new topic as it has nothing to do with Auto Gearboxes on the other thread.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

It would be important to know which C5 of the "partners" it is.C5 Zorb wrote: 21 Jun 2023, 20:06 Hello again,

The C5 normally retains its height - if it sinks after parking - the sealing elements of one spring cylinder are usually defective - rarely both spring cylinders.
The spring cylinders can be replaced or repaired.
And of course the height of the suspension can be adjusted manually and by diagnosis (4-post lift or pit).
Cracking noises usually come from defective ball bearings.
Greetings Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang.
Thanks for replying.
She has got a 2009 C5 HDI and I was thinking it’s probably some sort of air leak.
The suspension does not crack it pops! Unfortunately we don’t want to spend too much money on the car as we have to sell it due to the annoying ULEZ expansion!
I’ll look in to it and let you know how I get.
Thanks again.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: C5 Suspension Lowering When Parked
My 190,000 mile / 22 year old Mk1 C5 usually sinks a little over night. As soon as I unlock it on the remote, the electric suspension pump kicks into action for a few seconds and raises the suspension to normal. I attribute this to a degree of wear in the pump/valve/reservoir seals, allowing the weight of the car to push some hydraulic fluid back into the reservoir. Perhaps your seals have deteriorated too much.
The only time it dropped (almost) to the bottom was when the car was immobile for for 3 to 4 months while I plucked up the courage to rebuild the cylinder head after a cambelt fail (at 73,000miles). I only just managed to get a jack under it!

Re: C5 Suspension Lowering When Parked
It is most likely the seals of a spring cylinder - usually the right cylinder.
With this minor drop problem, I would do nothing and wait.
Even if it sinks faster when parking, it does not necessarily need to be repaired/replaced. However, the pump of the BHI has to work more - higher wear.
Greetings Wolfgang
