juddering at between 50 and 70

Post by JayKay »

I recently purchased a 97 1.9 TD Xantia. On the whole I am very pleased with it however I have one problem that concerns me. At between 65 and 70 the car judders, over 70 and the juddering recedes. The juddering is not through the steering, but I can feel it through the seat and I can see the wing mirrors juddering. I was thinking of having the wheels balanced, although as the juddering is not through the steering wheel it is making me think the problem lies elsewhere.
Any ideas?………..
Many thanks

Sounds a lot like rear wheel balancing. It's cheap to fix, so have it checked out at a local tyre dealer before you go dismantling anything.

I'd agree with that being a wheel balance problem, I've had rear wheels need balancing and had vibration between 60 and 70 mph receding at higher or lower speeds.
When I had it, the rear parcel shelf seemed to vibrate a lot and the view from the interior mirror was blurred...
