The cost should be around £60 - £70
This is for a Vac out, Re - oil & Re - gas, the propper way it SHOULD be done.
Find a decent specalist, should take at least an hour for a proper job & dont take it to the main dealer, That will cost at least an ARM!

But, if it's got no gas in it, it's got a leak! The A/C people will give it a small charge and add some UV sensitive dye - that way they can easily find the leak. My mate had a new condenser on his, which wasn't all that cheap!

Hi Taipan,
The pulley you mentioned should turn with the belt when you switch on the aircon. Check the wiring to the compressor unit or connect a live wire from your battery to the compressor. You should hear a click sound and the 'pulley' will lock and turn with the belt. With the pulley turning at engine idle speed, you can then confirm if there is gas by looking at the sight glass of the filter unit. If you can't see any bubbles and no cold air coming out your blower in the cabin, it's time to take your car to an aircon specialist for service. Good Luck[:o)]

When I got my car it had no gas, you couldn't see anything at all in the sight glass (no bubbles, no liquid). After gassing you could see the stream of liquid. They added the dye and no leaks were found. It's been ok for nearly 3 years now.

Donno if it's goy it's own fuse.
Usually the compressor is driven off an electro magnetic clutch, which does not take that much power (my guess in vicinity of 5Amps).
The clutch magnet is feeded via a spring loaded brush and a slipring.
Would be a single wire with +12V feed in the area of the compressor drive belt/wheel.
The brush wears out like any other electric motor brushes, and the slipring may be oil/dirt contaminated, thus the clutch never engages the compressor.
