Can I update my system myself?

Hi folks, I have a 2016 c4 grand picasso. I had the electric handbrake repaired at a local shop, and they said it was a wiring issue. A few days later, I got an engine fault notification, which came on and off a couple of times.

I took it back to the garage and they said the error code suggests the system needs updating, but they can't help with it. I can't help but think maybe their fix triggered the issue, but that's another matter.

Can I update this myself somehow? Thanks in advance.

What was the fault code?

If it's a software update it will very likely need a dealer update from their servers for this year, as the garage probably don't have the capability / access to do it.
