Xsara Picasso inner tie rods

Post by Orbit Motors »

At the risk of looking a bit daft, is there a special procedure for replacement of the inner tie rods on the Xsara Picasso (2003, 2.0 HDi specifically)?

At the weekend two of us tried with no success to extract the nearside inner tie rod from the steering rack but there appears to be no flat spots or anything to place a tool to start unwinding. The car is on 230,000 miles so I'm unsure as to whether it would still be on the originals. The new Delphi one appeared not to have anything useful on it to assist either.

This must be a job that comes up fairly frequently on such a common car, surely it doesn't involve dropping the subframe and removal of the rack and dismantling it from the column to do on a bench, or does it? Can't really seem to find too much out about it and the Haynes book of lies doesn't even cover it, only the ends.

Any pointers much appreciated!

Satisfaction guaranteed or your dent back!
If it just about starts and drives, I'll probably buy it.
