Black plastic restorers

Post by daviemck2006 »

I used to be as good as anyone at cleaning cars, but am not able to do nearly so much these days. Any bangers I have owned just didn't get cleaned, and the last decent cars I have had have been ceramic coated and needed nothing more than a power hose down. Plus I've not had to clean black plastic bumpers for years. So my questions are how am I going to make the white bits whiter on my recently bought citroen relay, and more importantly the (not) black bits blacker? The white paintwork I will be able to sort out quite easily, but I dont know what's best, and easiest to use on plastic bumpers. Between the huge bumper corners and the side panels, about 6 inches wide, there is a large amount of plastic which are various different shades of grey to manky. Any ideas lads?

First thing I'd do is to use a hot air gun which usually brings back the black as it should be, have a look at this video: :)

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

You can see the differences in colour I these pics. It's like 50 shades of grey,

Indeed you have a few shades there. I've had great success with the heat gun, especially on my Delica which went from being the same as your van to like new. I then gave it a spray of clearcoat and it lasted until I scrapped it! :-D
