Hi,
I've had my motorhome 18 months and I am giving it a service. I have a manual transmission 2001 Boxer 2.8 hdi turbo front wheel drive only and I'm changing the gearbox oil. I'm desperately hoping that someone can help me cut through the minefield of how much oil I should put in my gearbox. I've read amounts ranging from 1.8L to 2.75L on different websites, but I've actually drained 4.7L out !
Also confusing is that most websites say to fill through the breather on the top of the gearbox, but my gearbox doesn't have this, not that I can see anyway. It does have a level plug part way up.
The VIN is: VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Any info, help and advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks
Roseanne

That level plug is the refill plug as well. The only ones I have done are the late ones
You will have to manufacture something crudely to pour the oil in . It might work from a 1 litre bottle with a filler pipe if there is room people have posted about this awkward job on here as it is the same situation for many French cars and vans
Drain it and keep pumping the oil through the level hole until it gets to that point

Thanks for this. Did this and got 2.7 L in until it started coming out of level plug. Been for a test drive and all seems good.DEVON DOGG wrote: 14 May 2023, 11:56 That level plug is the refill plug as well. The only ones I have done are the late ones

Re: 2001 Boxer gearbox oil capacity
I run vans on long distance courier work and they can do upto 100K per year!
The manufacturers always say that the oil is a lifetime product but we always do the gearbox oil every 40K
The Renault Master gearbox is the worst of the worst and made of butter . There is only one make of oil you can use and that needs changing every 30K
If anybody id bored google Renault Master PF6 gearbox and learn about all the problems we have had
