Exhaust temperature sensor wiring problem

Hi all, I just discovered I pulled the exhaust temperature sensor connector apart when I pulled the engine. There are two black wires is there any way I can check which one of these is which without removing the sensor. Any help would be much appreciated?. If there is a wiring diagram available it would help?

I am going to apply heat to the exhaust using a heat gun and measure voltage generated this should help me identify the signal wire and ground. Am I correct in this assumption.

How much of the wiring can you see as the numbers on there will tell which is which.

I'll have quick check on sedre and see if I find your model.

Otherwise Marc will get you the wiring diagram for your car through the chassis number.

PS Found the following numbers for 2 pin black plug for down stream exhaust sensor which goes directly to the main engine ecu 1274/1275.

But I would wait on Mark confirming this or otherwise.

Thanks Kenny, I can't see any numbering on the wiring harness. The plug is brown but I doubt it makes a difference. It would be helpful to confirm one is signal and the other is ground.

From the wiring diagram I looked at it was input and output no earth ,so I presume it will be signal that changes with temperature.

It will be a thermistor. A resistor whose resistance varies with temperature.
As the two wires are the same colour the device is not polarized and it is neither connected (directly) to a power supply nor ground. It will only be connected directly to an ECU. So it won't matter which way around the wires go.
