2012 107 P/S Fault after pot hole, Dealer Visit?

Post by LoneWarrior90 »

Hi thanks for reading, this is my first post on this forum.

My 2012 Peugeot 107 hit a small pot hole on my way home yesterday and I lost power steering immediately accompanied by the P/S warning light on dash, and hasn't worked since. I got out and inspected the car and engine bay for any obvious damage, but have not found anything. Now for as long as the car is not running, you get a high frequency clicking from the P/S small ECU unit located behind the dash below the airbag switch. I have heard this can drain the battery, so I disconnected all the wires to it for now as I have no P/S anyway.
I have watched many yt videos explaining how the fault and the clicking is common fault for the small ECU unit, and I followed instructions on removal, inspecting the solder joints, I retinned a few suspect soldier joints and plugged back in but it has not made any difference.
Is this going to require a dealer visit to diagnose/fix? or is there any further DIY techniques that can be done?
I have already been informed by Peugeot that the P/S module that mounts to the rack is £1450, and the ECU unit is £350, but of course that is provided it is those things.
It is my understanding from research that even if I get second hand parts, it will require dealer equipment to recalibrate it all.

Has anyone else been through this issue?

Seems such a shame I was starting to enjoy this car.

Thanks in advance.

Update: Just watched someone online curing their problem symptoms by disconnecting the battery for >30mins, then reconnect and start.
I just did the same, amazingly this has worked, however I still need to take a drive to make sure it doesn't return. I will update when done.

If the steering has an electric pump then a hard knock could just make it stop working so disconnecting the battery for a while might reboot it.

Hi Jamie and welcome to the forum. I agree with Husky, it may well be reset by the reset procedure. There is a list of members who are equipped with Lexia and willing to help others on the forum so you may be able to further diagnose it with the aid of one of them. You can find the list at:

Is the BSI reset procedure the same for a Peugeot as used on a Citroën? 🤔

Thank you all for your kind replies. I picked this car up last year for work runs and love it. For as long as I can keep any future rust at bay. I want to keep this car going as long as possible. Is there any other gremlins these cars could get that I am not yet aware of?
Engine related not too concerned, as low mileage engines salvaged start at around £250 in my area so engine not too concerned about lol.

Thanks husky.
FYI Up to now, the fault has not returned. Considered resolved now, decent result 👌
