508 piloted manual stuck on gear + economy mode = no start

Unread post by Rautakopra »

Hello!

Long story short. Been working on my 2011 Peugeot 508 1.6 e-hdi with piloted six speed gearbox. I was doing some measurements since my brake pedal position sensor was playing up. After all, the sensor was all ok but its fuse in the side on the BSI module was corroded. Meanwhile I was doing tests, I ended up lefting the car with gear selected and the car is now in economy mode. Now when I try change gear nothing happens because car is in economy mode. The economy mode would disapper in the moment I would start my car, but since the gearbox is in gear and not at neutral it wont let me do it.

Is there any way how I can manually shift this piloted gearbox to neutral gear or get the car out of economy mode without being able to start it? I greatly appreciate all help!

I had an issue with my C2 manual gearbox where it was in economy mode even after the battery was fully charged. I did a BSI reset and that seemed to clear it from economy mode. - perhaps a BSI reset might help.

Thanks for advice Napping! I tried that couple times but unfortuntely it seems not help in my situation.

I heard that pulling the car with ignition on and in gear would bring the car out ot economy mode, maybe it would even start? But my car is now parked in garage. I would first pull it backwards some metres and it does not feel smart when I know its on gear?

Other idea is that: I could raise car up, put ignition on and try to spin starter from straight its connectors. But this idea feels little hazard too. Beside these two options, I am running out of ideas.

Ok I managed to made some progress today. I found out that I was able to get car out of ecomony mode with these steps.

1: Battery fully charged and kept it still in charger.
2: Put ignition on and relesease handbrake.
3: Pulled and pushed a bit car backwards and forwards. In the same second engine tried turn a bit, economy mode was off!

Sadly this didn't help me change gear to neutral. As last option, I lifted car up, ignition on and connected wire from battery positive to start solenoid. Car started instantly and gearbox changed to neutral! I won't recommend anyone to attempt this, but I was able to start my car in this way.

Now I can start and stop car normally from start button. Car is still throwing that P171A code, so I will continue my work on it.

All is sorted now. Looks like this P171A code is tied up to the alternator after all. The used alternator I installed must be somehow giving false signals.

Pulled the Lin wire from pin 4 and stop motor mode wire from pin 2 from that 5-pin connector from alternator. Car drives well now, charging like it should and not throwing that brake signal fault anymore, so gearbox is changing gears perfectly in auto mode.

Ofcourse stip and start ain't working right now, but I can live with it happily. Thanks for help!

Nice work! Glad you found a way of getting the car into neutral. :)
