Wiper conundrum

Post by r_306_XSi »

Hi,
Further to my other posts (Dodgy Wipers..) I have a problem with my front wipers - intermittent speed, double speed do not work, and the wipers do not "self park", i.e. they stop when you move the switch.
It a phase 2 306 XSi without the rain sensor gubbins!
I think the double speed not working is due to a break in the wire that activates the double-speed relay (as hardwiring this relay causes the motor to run at the double-speed).
I have (or at least, think I have!) verified that the switch in the wiper motor is correct, as there is no connection between the two switch pins when the wipers are parked, and there is a connection when the wipers are at 90 degrees.
Thing is, I took my car to the dealer for a service and asked them to have a quick recce. They said the problem was due to a fault wiper motor - £235 please!
I said - errm... I leave it for now!
The question is - Is the dealer right, as it sounds to me as I've ruled out the wiper motor as the cause of my problems?
Anyone any idea what a front wiper motor is likely to cost me down the scrappy?

Yes,
£60 when I'm not sure it will actually fix the problem seems a little steep....
