1999 xantia 2.0i estate overheating

Post by paddy mcclintock »

I am a first timer to your helpful site. My fully serviced 75,000 mile petrol Xantia estate had taken to pushing the temp. gauge to near 120 degrees in traffic on a hot day - but with no red light, while behaving normally re. tick over and performance. There does not seem to be a water leak. Switching on the aircon also made no difference. By chance, when I pulled in and switched off, then turned the key back on to the first click, when just the radio comes on and the dials light up, the temp gauge shows the normal 85-90 degrees. Should I worry, and if not, is there a remedy? I like to visit my expensive Citroen main dealer armed with a little research, and so would value your advice.

it could be a faulty temp switch or gauge. not to hot on electrics but by the sound of it the only thing i would be worried about is it giving a faulse reading.
