Rear cluster windows peeling

Unread post by p4n05 »

Good afternoon all,

Is anybody else facing this issue? The rear cluster/quarter panel windows have some kind of film (tinted) as you are aware. On mine it has started breaking down and it looks quite bad...Any suggestions on how this can be fixed?

BTW the car is a Citroen DS5 Sport 2012

These are bonded panels, so may be ageing that has caused the delaminating. They're about £140 to buy from Citroen, bit of course you'll need the glazing tools to remove all the mastic and re-bond. May be worth seeing ig a glazing company can do it - or see if they'll do it if you supply the part.

They're plastic, not glass, possibly due to their very curvy shape. I've noticed when cleaning mine that the edges are quite exposed, so if they're laminated in some way then the edges of the sandwich will be the weak point. The manual includes a warning about not using abrasive glass cleaners on them (e.g. that old pink Windolene fluid), presumably as they'd scratch much more easily than glass.

They've probably just reached their expiry date. Perhaps buying new windows every ten years is just a cost of driving a lovely but weird car. I'll start saving the pennies for mine.

The headlights on my 2014 Berlingo are just starting to develop slight surface crazing. It's probably the same plastic (polycarbonate), in which case it's just what happens.
