Citroen C5 X7 suspension pump experiment

Unread post by nomad123 »

Hi forum!
So we have been experimenting with suspension pumps.

We have installed suspension pump from c5 x7 with V6 engine to a c5 x7 with 2.0hdi engine and configured it via lexia.

Ride quality have been greatly decreased with suspension pump from V6 car and suspension won't go to the highest position.

Upon returning the original pump the ride quality is back to normal and the car rises to highest position.
Is it possible that pumps from V6 engines cars are not fully compatible with 2.0hdi engine cars and it affects ride quality?

V6 cars have 4x height sensors, one per corner, whereas i4 engined cars have one sensor per axle, as such the ecu component of the BHI is different, ergo it is illogical to expect one type of "pump" to perform flawlessly in the other type of vehicle.

I undestand that. But i thought once configured via Lexia it will be the same.

If someone has some experience in this regard feel free to share! Thanks 😊

You're also forgetting the fact that there is a second suspension ECU on V6 engines that works with the ECO suspension ECU built into the BHI. They each perform different functions on V6 engines. If they were all the same they wouldn't have different part numbers...

I see.
So when replacing suspension pump with used one, is it important that used pump is from a car with same engine and gearbox?
For example my c5 x7 is 2.0hdi 103kw manual gearbox.
Can I install suspension pump from 2.0hdi automatic gearbox c5? Or 2.2hdi?
Or it need to be exactly the same engine and gearbox?
Thanks! 😊

There are a huge number of BHIs with the HP pump and each are different according to model, variant engine, gearbox etc. so always try and replace like for like.

Can the electrical controllers mounted on the pump be swapped over to solve the problem ?

(Assuming it is not those that are kippered)

I think it can be swaped.
I wonder if this bhi controller can go bad and cause uncomfortable ride?
Sometimes my suspension can be really good and sometimes it feels every little imperfection on the road and sends vibrations from the road to interior trims and seats.

Unlike ABS / ESP ECUs, there are no separate electronic parts of the BHI available separately. The pumps may operate at different pressures, so I would say just replace the BHI with the exact part number.

The usual cause for failure on the pump is the electric motor, brushes and commutator etc. so maybe you could just swap your own dedicated top half on to a good bottom half, there doesn't appear to be much difference in the actual motors.

As far as I can see the C5 X7 pump 'looks' similar to that of the C5 facelift pump. If it is, there will be three main components; the motor, the pump, and the valve control block. I would suggest the pump and the valve control block are probably specific to the variant of the X7, but the motor may well work across the range. The motor can be separated from the pump, although it is a bit tricky.
