Don't beat yourself up on that one.
I bought a new set of plastic bolt caps, admittedly cheap, but 4 of the 5 were too loose and no way would they fit securely on the locking bolt.
Spent more time than I care to admit making them fit. Doh.......

Enjoy getting them off on a wet, cold, and super dark night whilst next to a fast dual carriageway.....when you cannot find the plastic tool/that then breaks.......
