Citroen Jumper does not show adblue light

Unread post by Master20 »

We have a Citroen Jumper 2.2, new, only 8 months old (Jun. 2022)

But Citroen Jumper does not show adblue light.

The result is that the vehicle did not start twice because it was missing.

An additional dose of Adblue in the car is not a solution for us,
we also want a solution to why the adblue light warning is not displayed.

Cause: sensor, light... or something else?

If it is under a year old then take it back to the dealer to fix under warranty. Don't try fixing anything yourself as this may affect the warranty.

What light are you referring to? There is no Adblue Light.

The warning only comes on when the Adblue is at a level that requires topping up and will then display the range remaining. The vehicle not starting is likely to be something else.

Exactly that!!

It does not indicate when it is necessary to fill.

What is wrong? Sensor?

It's new car ...

The warning will only ask you to top up the tank when it reaches 2,400 km of range remaining (depending on driving conditions) which is when the message first comes on.

This is the warning lamp:

When topping up with this system, you need to add 5 litres minimum for it to be recognised.

This is our problem by Citroen Jumper 2.2, y. 2022.

The car does not give any warning that the AdBlue is running out.

We completely emptied the AdBlue tank twice.

The car does not start at all, because there is no AdBlue.
And when you pour AdBlue - the car runs normally again.

But the car does not give any warning that the AdBlue is running out.

An additional dose of Adblue in the car is not a solution for us,
we also want a solution to why the adblue light warning is not displayed.

Then you have a problem, I agree with Paul take it back, as it is under warranty. I wanted to ascertain whether you were misunderstanding the system operation or not first of all, before incurring diagnostic charges.

My husband and I have a Citroen Jumper/Relay Pilote Motorhome a year old this August 2023. Same problem. We have been told after the THIRD breakdown diagnostic search to resolve complete engine failure is that the media radio system has been changed and has caused some dashboard warning lights to fail, as in they don't work! This has taken two months to resolve. First replacing the ECU and BSI units, same problem occurring a three times. But was it the media radio system's fault this time? No confidence in the vehicle. Thankfully everything done by Citroen under Warranty though they did try to wriggle out of making an repairs by saying the RAC recovery guy didn't start the engine properly. We get our vehicle back tomorrow, Oct 12th, after a further two weeks. We still have the same media radio system installed and have been told we should top up the adblue every 2,500 miles, what tosh. Our Peugeot 3008 gets adblue check every 12,500 miles at service, okay different engine size. But it will be like driving a car without a fuel guage, having to watch how many miles is travelled to know to top up adblue again. No warning light is a joke. Not fit for purpose.

That can be the case. Modern vehicles use the head units as an integral part of the vehicle and many systems are controlled through this interface or indeed route information to and from the ECU in the Touchscreen and or the Head Unit ECUs. Replacing it with an aftermarket system can affect the operation of the vehicle and consequently any warranty - it is very clearly specified in the owner's handbook that connecting any third party or non-manufacturer approved equipment can have an adverse effect on the vehicle's systems.

So for example, if your vehicle provides key messages via the head unit and you have an aftermarket system, then it won't be able to communicate issues to the driver. So you are on dodgy ground to start with. Always best to stick with the original Head Unit - or make sure you upgrade at pre-order if there is a better system on offer that suits your needs.

Regarding Adblue, different vehicles have different sized tanks, so 12,500 may be too long to wait before topping it up. If I were you, I'd keep a 15Lt container at home and top the tank up every 3 months or so.

We have a 2016 1.6 hdi Citroen Cactus and that seems to use about 1½ litres of Adblue every 1000 miles. Also we have a Peugeot 308 1.5 hdi 2019 and that uses about 1.7 litres of Adblue per 1000 miles. The Adblue tanks on our cars I think might be 17 litres so if the 3008 is similar you may find it does not get to 12500 miles before needing filling up. I also found out a Peugeot service does not include topping up the Adblue and is not listed on the service check sheet used by our dealer. It was on the Citroen Cactus service sheets but I service that myself now.

PSA don't top up Adblue at service as it's considered a customer maintenance item like topping up the windscreen washer fluid, but they are happy to do it at service or any other time and charge you a fortune for doing so.

The tank on a Relay III (the UK name for the Jumper) is about 19 litres capacity - so about 2500 miles range depending on driving conditions of course.
