Dear all
Car: C5 X7 (2010), 1,6HDI
Problem: Webasto (Thermo Top Evo, I suppose?) --> unreliable start-up, and a lot of white smoke for first 5 minutes after cold start.
----
Here is some contribution:
How to disable automatic startup of the smoke generator (in my case at least):
- open up Diagbox (I had version v07.57)
- once you are connected to the car, choose "Repair"
- from Global Test list select "Injection/Ignition"
- under Injection/Ignition, click "Configuration"
- choose "Configuration with displaying of the parameters" --> "Manual configuration" --> "ECU downloading"
- try and find "Additional heating". Click the droplist (arrow down) on the right side of current heater setting
- IMPORTANT: make a not of your current setting, as you may later want to return it as it was
- IMPORTANT(?): You MAY be able to do harm to your car by changing values under "ECU downloading" --> do not change anything randomly
- change the setting to "NO ADDITIONAL HEATING"
- confirm by clicking "two gears"-button on the bottom right corner of the window
Now the smoke generator will NOT start every time you start the car for 1 or 2km driving.
You can still start up the Webasto (when needed) with your remote control (Webasto telestart T100).
----
And here is a question:
Does anyone have suggestions what should I do to repair the after-start smoking issue, and unreliable startup? I'm not willing to take it to Webasto dealer = too much €€€ for a student.
My guess is there is a lot of soot inside combustion chamber --> open and clean it!
Are there some components I should expect to replace to this Webasto at the same time (after 13 years of hard driving and low maintenance)? Gasket set, of course. Something else?
Thanks!
Pekka

Re: Webasto automatic start and smoke
Webastos are worse, usually need a lot of parts replaced.
Just cleaning wont help, needs at least burning chamber and glow plug replaced.
Service kits might be available?

I have various repair handbooks and wiring diagrams for C5 mk1, Xantia, XM, Berlingo and C3 mk1.
I have Lexia/Diagbox (Sweden) and Servicebox/sedre

Re: Webasto automatic start and smoke
Hi
Thanks for you opinion/warning, citroenguy. As we got no other comments, and I'm stuck with what I have, I think I will just open the heater to see what's inside it.
It won't get any worse, as it is anyway useless during colder days (-15C or more) due to unreliable startup. I expect to find a lot of carbon buildup, possibly leaky fuel nozzle without proper atomization, and maybe somewhat dead ignition plug (incandescent finger or something like that - sorry my non-native english).
I will post my observations here once I'm done (in month or two, maybe).
