Citroen C5 - No Satellite issue

Unread post by atakansaracoglu »

Hi there,

I have 2013 Citroen C5 e-hdi executive and I’m having trouble with my navigation system. It shows wrong location and “Satellite found : 0”

I have tried to install the full map and just Turkey map on the smeg+ (telegram bot) and it still same.

My vin number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I think this is about gps antenna but I’m not sure and i don’t know how to fix it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hi

You don't have a SMEG+ system according to your VIN. You should have an RT6 telematics system.

Regardless, the no satellites issue is usually related to the rear aerial and water ingress.

What you can do first of all is to determine if it is the aerial or the unit.

1) To do this purchase a cheap GPS aerial from China, with the correct FAKRA connector. They are only about £10 UK.
2) Unplug the original GPS antenna from the rear of the RT6 and connect the replacement GPS aerial in. Temporarily stick the GPS receiver on the dashboard (you don't need to secure the RT6 back - leave it loose for now.
3) Start the car and go for a drive with the navigation screen on. It is important to drive the vehicle for at least 10 minutes. This is to allow the GPS receiver to lock onto the satellites. Leaving the car in one plave will not work.
4) after the drive, check to see if there are satellites visible now. If you have satellites showing, then you know the issue is in the original aerial from the rear of the RT6 to the roof aerial.
5) If youa re still not getting any satellites, then the GPS receiver built into the unit may be faulty.

Thank you for your response Sir.

How can I understand which antenna is suitable for the car? Can you do me a favor by sharing the product link?

And 1 more question, did I installed wrong software?

Thanks in advance.

If you have somehow installed the incorrect maps, then that can also cause problems.

This is an RT6 unit:

A SMEG+ unit is touchscreen only control shown here and was only fitted to the last few C5s made before production ceased.

This is the latest download for Turkey that I am aware of.

http://psa.download.navigation.com/auto ... 0-1471.ZIP

It's a genuine PSA download so perfectly legal. If you don't know what to do with this file then PM me and I can advise.

I've bought a gps antenna with fakra connector. Thank you for your advice.

I m just wondering if it will work when i plug it to rt6 back and leave the device behind of rt6 (inside the hole) ?

does it find satellites when its inside the car chest? i want to hide it inside chest. ı dont want to see it on the front panel.

whats your opinion?

No you need to have the receiver on the dashboard or mounted, otherwise as it won't be able to pick up the signal. If you find this solves your problem, then you know your vehicle aerial is faulty. So you can opt to use the replacement aerial. Lots of these are magnetically fixed, or you can secure it with some velcro tape on the dash somewhere if leaving it permanently.

If keeping it as a long term solution / fix, then you should easily be able to route the aerial via the rear of the RT6 through to the corner of the dashboard and out through the dashboard end panel trim and tuck it up in the bottom of the windscreen for example.

Thank you for your advices.

Before changing the gps antenna, should I try to change top antenna? Does it make sense? What’s your opinion?

Well that is why we test the aerial using a cheap one to see if that solves the problem. If the replacement antenna you bought works, then you know the aerial on the vehicle is faulty somewhere. Most of the faults happen at the aerial base. Water gets in and starts to corrode the electronic components in the circuitry. It depends where the water has penetrated to.
