2005 Clio 1.2 - jump leads wrong way round!

Unread post by cxbleu »

Whilst jump starting the car with the assistance of a 'Helpful Friend', my attention lapsed for a mo and I didn't notice he'd attached the jump leads the wrong way round!

There was a bit of a nasty smell and we both then went to the pub. Have we killed the car or will it just have blown a fuse? I did a quick check, but they all seemed not to have blown.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Thanks.

I guess you will find out soon enough is certain things start malfunctioning or not working. You may be lucky, but the ECUs can be very sensitive this sort of thing.

Our vicar did that but on Hyundai, there was a fusible link by the battery connections that blew. Don't know about the Clio.

This maybe. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301852203936

The sensitive electronic components will be protected by diodes and relays, but the alternator is only protected by a fuse so is the most likely casualty.

Connect a charged battery and see what happens,

At the very minimum you I would think you will have a blown fuse or 2. As said connect a charged battery first & see what happens, If it wont start check all the fuses.
I helped out someone with a Micra a while back that had done this & it had blown three different fuses. After replacing the fuses it was fine.
