Module is charging.

Unread post by Newcitroenowner »

I have recently bought a Citroen C4 Grand picasso Feel Bluehdi S/S registered 30 June 2017. The Touchscreen goes off intermittently with 'module is charging' and also the vehicle auto stop/start doesn't always work. I spoke to the garage I bought it from and they put a new car battery in and it was great for the first long drive in it but now when I start it up the same problems have come back. I don't know what car battery they put in, currently have covid so not been able to check.
I'm really pleased with the car other than this problem so any help would gratefully received.

I suspect there are several separate issues here.

1) Stop Start.
It's common that the vehicle battery has to be at a certain percentage (and this percentage varies between vehicle to vehicle / system used) for the Stop Start to work. Even after the battery has been replaced, it can take 24 hours for the battery management software to calibrate the new battery and inform the BSI which handles the energy management.

So this may not be an issue. However apart from the battery, there are other conditions that must be met before the activation of stop start. These can include the outside temperature, the engine temperature, the number of times SS has been activated over the last so many miles, the internal passenger compartment temperature requested by the passengers, electrical consumer current draw (if you have phones or other devices plugged into the USB or are charging a phone for example, the Audio levels etc etc. but I think you understand.

2) As far as the touchscreen goes, I think that message is probably 'Module is loading' not 'charging'. Some modules take a little longer to load as soon as the ignition / engine is switched on. For example the Navigation module can take a few seconds to load up. If the display is actually working then going blank, then it may be the touchscreen unit itself that is faulty. You should check what version of system firmware the unit is currently on and update it if necessary as there may be issues that were fixed on a later version.

You need to access the SETTINGS Menu (usually displayed as the cogwheel in the upper right of the screen), then look for System Info button somewhere along the bottom. Then it should give you a screen that asks if you want to view the installed modules. Select YES and it should provide the System software version.

Hi,

I bought a new (to me) 1.6 Blue HDI Grand Picasso Flair, 2017 (67) just one week ago, from a main dealer. I had “Module not charging” show up on my screen after the touchscreen restarted a number of times. I did a firmware update earlier today, too early to tell if it worked, but after the school run this morning it happened 3 times in ten minutes. Having done the update it hasn’t happened in 3 hours of driving since.

I’m confident my touchscreen firmware is now up to date (21.08.87.32)

Can anyone tell me if 3.0.2-r0 is the current Nav firmware version?

Thanks

Assuming you have a Wave 2 NAC which would be correct for Firmware 21.08.87.32, then I don't recognise the mapping version, so it may of been the original old factory version. 3.0.1 was July 2016, so unless you have missed a digit out and mean 13.0.0-r0 which was released Jan-Feb 2019, I can't say

Regardless, the latest Navigation update for Europe is 24.0.0-r0, released November 2022.

As for Module issue, I'd suggest you take it back to the dealer, as you should have some warranty on it. If the Head Unit is faulty, then it's big bucks to replace, so I would get them to resolve it. If it was from a Citroen dealer, they will be able to diagnose the system and determine if it is faulty from the internal memory.

The other possibility I can think of is that it may be the independent telematic unit's backup battery. The independent telematic unit hardware is entirely separate from the Head Unit and is used for SOS emergency calls or Citroen Services and will have separate buttons for these functions. The battery in the telematics unit will eventually be unable to recharge like all batteries and when this happens, it may be displaying a warning. The dealers can test this with the diagnostics and replace the battery if necessary.

Many thanks,

I have updated the navigation firmware to the version you recommended.

Fingers crossed, since I updated the touchscreen software yesterday, it has been working flawlessly.

I’ll keep an eye on it, the car has indeed got a 2 year Spoticar warranty.

Kind regards
Anthony
