C3 Picasso Radiator Fan and Heater Fan

Unread post by hyperbole »

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me.

I recently bought 09 C3 Picasso 1.4 Petrol that needed a bit of work done to it.

Whilst I was replacing the timing chain I noticed that the radiator fan was not connected. There are two connectors, one that goes into the fan controller unit at the top of the fan body and the second one that goes into the centre of the fan body/motor. The second one was not plugged in. Tried to connect it but it would not fit, the shape of the plug looks correct but inside the socket on the fan, there are two plastic fins which prevent the plug from being inserted. The fan does not look like it has been recently replaced and the wiring harness with the plugs for the fan looks original.

I decided to snap those two fins inside the socket and then the connector went in fine. I then run the car up to temp, coolant temp reached 90C (checking via OBD connector + app) but the fan never kicked in.

Also, after connecting the fan, the blower motor inside the cabin now comes on and stays on permanently whilst the engine is running. Disconnected the rad fan but the blower in the cabin still stays on. Probably a fuse blown somewhere or needs a new resistor now?

I am happy to buy a new rad fan if necessary (I think the rad needs replacing too as I can see some minor steaming and corroded/deformed fins) but wanted to see if I was missing something.

Are there different types of radiator fans for this car?
Any idea why would it be disconnected and the connector not compatible?

Really surprised the car does not overheat. I drove the car on the motorway for 2-3 hours before doing any work to it and it was fine. Maybe because it's winter.

Many thanks in advance.
