C5 (X7) 3.0HDI Exclusive with NG4 headunit, displayed temperature reading out of whack

Unread post by Jay-Bruce »

Just a silly little niggle, but on our stereo's screen, the outside temperature is always reported much lower than it really is, like today it's reporting -3 to -4 but it's +8 outside. So I'm wondering what's the part number for the sensor and where is the sensor located, and, or is it possible to calibrate the existing sensor?

The sensor is probably shot. Part: 6445F9, £55.44. It's located in the driver's side wing mirror at the underside - you should see a little nipple - that's the protruding part.

They can't be calibrated, they need replacing. So apart from the wing mirror disassembly it will be door card off to get to the wiring of the sensor, which needs to be cut and the new sensor wires joined.

Thanks Marc, I'll organise one, ironically enough I'm going to be back in that corner sooner rather than later as I've just discovered that one of the droplinks fitted in October 2021 as part of the full front axle* refurb is now knocking.

*In October 2021 the car get new upper and lower front ball joints, new nearside driveshaft, offside driveshaft refurbished, ATF changed, new front mintex (?) disks, new front pagid pads, front calipers serviced with new slides, replaced both front wheel bearings, engine oil and bosch filter changed, new bosch air filter, new bosch cabin filter, new bosch wiper blades

Colin, as I've said, I'm still weighing up options, but until there is a new name on the C5's logbook, it will continue to be "enthusiastically maintained"; all the work above spanned out of the offside driveshaft developing a slight wobble under hard acceleration due to wear in an inner CV joint, when I eventually sell it, this will be the C5 to buy.

The sensor eventually arrived today - had a look and see the sensor is protruding out of the mirror, so its wiring must go through the mirror hinge, which means splitting the mirror, for which I'd like a procedure to follow, if there's a guide available? Just to save me breaking things when I faff about with a spludger, screwdrivers and seriously stong swearwords.

Don't discount the idea of joining the wires behind the glass if you can get enough access there.
