Knocking from rear of car,

Unread post by slackgarry »

Got a knock at rear of car, when going into reverse. Knocks just as you go back. Once each time you go from forwards to backwards.

Sounds a bit like twanging sound. hand a inital lock and cant see anything obvious.

Any pointers please.

Thanks
Kind regards

You've fully checked the exhaust Garry? I know from my time of looking after daughter's C1 how they like to flop around and then fall off!

I thought you would have ;)

And whilst you're under there Garry, check the springs... I'm not aware they break for a pastime but you never know... I seem to remember they're quite loose in their mounts when the car is unloaded and at its lightest... One that's broken or otherwise unhappy could well make the noise you describe...

Deliberately clipped down to just this line.

I once had a car (can't recall which now, but must either be the drum-in-disk of my 406 or else the drum of a previous 306) whereby there was perhaps not play, more mis adjustment of the rear brake shoes, where it would lock the wheel solid, but rotating the wheel forward then backwards there was a slight rotation - I think it was the leading shoe then trailing shoe moving until sat against the fixed pivot of the backplate.

It was rare to do it on its wheels but very obvious clunk when rotating the wheel suspended, handbrake on.

Just another thing worth a check

That's a good call Matt! I had a 206 once that did a similar and when I had thee drum off the friction material had become unbonded from the metal part of the brake shoe and was floating around and causing all sorts of 'fun'...
