Ds3 abs and esp light

Unread post by Sprenj »

Hi there I have a abs ,esp fault showing on my 2010 ds31.6 hdi vin VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I have read through most of the forums on here and tried as much as I can think of ๐Ÿ™„so I have a snap on solius and did a test and checked on the data and still no joy ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ณ
Fault codes
Engine
U1213 intersystem can one parameter presented of the abs ESP is in valid
Antilock brakes
U1221 unknown code
Po562 ECU low voltage (check and was 12/13 v on data )
C1391 unknown code
C1136 unknown code
C1320 speed sensor fault ( showing 407 kw on data when static)
U1325 unknown code
U1125 unknown code
Electric steering
C1388 unknown code
๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿค”
I have:
1 replace abs sensor ( europarts ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ™„) may need OEM
Checked wiring and found couple joints in wires where clips been broken and wire near abs pump where someone must thave tested for circuit, but all seem ok with meter .
2removed bis and only found 5 amp fuse blown which says abs esp in book ,so replaced but no joy .
3 checked data with machine ,found sensor reading 407km
Then when turning voltage from ECU went up turning left but said invalid value when going right(think that's right way it said)
4 checked Abs ECU voltage was showing between 12/13 volts
5 recal steering angle so 0 when in centre as was way over to one side .
6 changed indicator stalk as didn't switch off in correct place so thought may be short .
7aslo changed esp track control switch .
8checked abs sensor in another hub in case bearing was fault with abs ring ?
10 changed abs pump .
Now I'm lost and I know there is something I have overlooked . The only thing would be the no voltage when turning 1 way but don't know what controls this ?
If anyone can help please ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคžthanks

Please don't create multiple threads for the same problem - it duplicates any responses and causes confusion. The other 2 threads have been deleted.

Your code reader is unable to provide details of the specific fault codes. You really need a bespoke interface and software like a Lexia kit with Diagbox.

However I will take a look at the codes for you and give you some detail shortly, so check back here in a while.

First thing to note that as per the P0562 fault, a weak battery will no doubt affect electrical systems on the car. ECUs will fail if insufficient voltage is getting to them, so you first need to get a decent battery on the vehicle.

Next don't use cheap parts and certainly I would not recommend anything from ECP.

All of of these 'U' code issues are to do with communications / data and if the ECUs are under-voltage then this will affect their ability to operate and can give other faults, which is why I suggested you address the battery issue to start with then work through them.

There is a specific front left hand wheel ABS sensor fault. Deal with this next as this will throw up other ESP faults, but make sure the connections to the ESP ECU have been checked - especially the connectors and the actual pins, as these have been known to become loose and break giving intermittent data readings.

Concerning the Steering Torque Sensor: read this concerning fault code C1388 it concerns calibration of the steering angle sensor and if it has been done incorrectly. If not calibrated then it will send incorrect data and cause knock-on effects and more faults.

C1388
"CAUTION: If the calibration operation has not been done correctly, the fault code C1388 is recorded and the electric power steering warning lamp comes on. The functioning of the comfort strategies (stop arrival management and active recall) is altered, with customer complaints such as "noise at full lock", "steering wheel not returning to the mid-point". Too great an offset of the calibration can lead to the ESP system going into downgrade mode (Lighting of the warning lamp as well as deactivation)."

Fault Code: P0562
Description of Fault: Battery voltage measurement: System voltage too low. Electrical fault. Voltage lower than 6 V for more than 2 seconds.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed curbing function (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Deactivation of taking account of the tight spot information
  • Prohibiting of regeneration of the particle emission filter and stopping of the requests in progress
Symptoms:
  • Jerking/stalling
  • Malfunctioning of the idle
  • Lack of power
  • Starting problem
Suspect Areas:
  • Battery
  • Alternator

Fault Code: U1125
Description of Fault: Absence of communication with the gyrometer-accelerometer sensor. Link on the CAN (Out of service)
Conditions for Fault to clear: Front door exterior opening control handle; Vehicle speed higher than 20 km/h.
  • ESP/ASR indicator lamp
  • Message
  • Audible beep
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Loss of control of the vehicle, no regulation of under-steer or over-steer
  • Deviation of vehicle on braking
  • Minimal locking of wheels in conditions of poor grip
  • Wheel slip
Suspect Areas:
  • The gyrometer accelerometer sensor is faulty
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Stability control ECU

Fault Code: U1213
Description of Fault: Vehicle speed data fault. Faults in communication between ECUs on the CAN network.

Conditions of activation of the diagnostics: At least one of the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- Vehicle stopped, engine running, with movements of the steering wheel
- Vehicle moving, with movements of the steering wheel
Conditions for Fault to clear: Ignition switched off and on again.
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: Following the confirmation time, the vehicle speed is progressively fixed at a refuge value. A calibration defines the stage used to reach the refuge value.
Lighting of the power steering warning lamp
Symptoms:
  • Steering heavy at low speed (Assistance level constant)
Suspect Areas:
  • Intersystem CAN network
  • ABS/ESP ECU
  • Electrical harnesses
  • Connectors

U1221 Fault: no communication with the electric power steering ECU: Data invalid

Fault Code: U1325
Description of Fault: Absence of communication with the gyrometer-accelerometer sensor. Datastream absent; Internal fault not valid; Counter not valid; Datastream length not valid.

Thanks so much ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘deffo best ยฃ10 spent you go a great service. I will go through all this when I'm back home.and I didn't know threads were all linked sorry ๐Ÿ™„.
Will fit the new sensor and poss check harness again . On checking ECU voltages it showed at 13 v ? Could it be a bad earth somewhere as car starts great and battery is in good health?

Vehicle starting is no indication of battery health. Capacity to store a charge is diminished over time, so a battery in regular use over 5 years old is likely to need changing.

The Power steering ECU is another prime area for failure - so have a good look at the electrical wiring and pins of these connections too.

The voltage is dependent on the ECU requirements, but as you can see from P0562, the charge measured generally is quite low, so you may well have a short. Check the wiring from the alternator to the battery via the engine fusebox and check the fusebox condition too.
