Picked up a C5 2.2HDi estate just over a year ago with a number of the stock issues and while generally delighted with the car, some of the problems are trying my patience!
Most pressing was the steering rack which I already knew from a friend was a recurrent mk3 C5 issue, this was rectified by a local steering specialist who have become familiar with C5s!
The other nagging issue is the suspension - the pump is running on and off constantly and the rear of the car raises and lowers repeatedly when parked until the car goes to sleep. I’ve read a number of posts about the suspension but none seem to tally quite with this symptom - is it as simple as a faulty sensor or incorrectly set where it attaches to the roll bar? The only other bizarre occurrence with the suspension has been a couple of times about 6 months ago where the offside front strut decided to vent a fair quantity of fluid - but has then apparently “behaved” ever since!
More recently I received a warning that the DPF additive fluid low level had been reached. I bought a filling kit and added a couple of litres to the wee tank, but I presume from reading others’ posts that it requires a Citroen-specific software intervention to remove the warning and reset the fluid level. I have access to Delphi car and light commercial diagnostic software but this did not seem to be able to access deep enough as merely clearing the fault doesn’t reset the level counter and the warning just comes back.
Finally, the crowning turd in the water pipe (so far, anyway!) is a wiper anomaly. The offside one functions fairly normally, albeit only on a fairly quick intermittent frequency regardless of stalk position. The nearside motor only moves the arm a few degrees up from the horizontal position, then returns to horizontal (while the offside one is working normally). I have read extensively the experiences of others with C5 X7s and plucked up the courage to investigate, expecting the usual water ingress-related damage. Ok the exterior of both motor housings is noticeably corroded, however upon opening them up, the internals all appeared to be clean and dry, with adequate grease on the moving parts. The units are both dated 6/08 which suggests they may be original, and they have been apart before as someone has previously taken good care to ensure the joins were well sealed back up.
Thanks to anyone who’s taken the time to read this long-winded epistle, and I do hope some of you experienced folks will be able to give me some pointers!
