Regeneration history?
Hi
I have a citroen berlingo multispace 2012
Its a taxi and needs to be tested every 6 months
It has failed on emissions (0.51 max with 1.49 result)
I want to see using the diagbox the history of when its had regeneration
Can anyone please tell me where to look on diagbox for this information as I am struggling to find it?
Thanks
legepe
PS: does anyone know where I can get a copy of the manual for the diagbox?

Re: Regeneration history?
As DiagBox/Lexia was never meant for public use there are no manuals available (unless you can get them from the PSA Group). The main advice is to not make any changes unless you are CERTAIN that is what you want to do, and ask about your changes here on the Forum first. If you get things wrong you could end up with a 'bricked' ECU and a car that will no longer start!

Re: Regeneration history?
No manuals, but you can see this information from the live data. I suggest you run a global diagnostic, then when completed, select the engine ECU, and from the resulting menu you should find the parameters menu from which you can select pre-defined or choose your own parameters. The DPF average miles between regeneration will be shown.legepe wrote: 05 Feb 2023, 19:36 Hi

Ive gone into the pre-defined parameters.
Problem is a lot of the results dont mean a great deal to me.
Ive attached some pics (sorry for quality of images, but couldnt get the diagbox to print to file) and was hoping that there might be something obviously not correct causing the problem that a trained eye could spot, or failing that, some advice on what steps I can take with diagbox to point me in a direction to diagnosing the fault
Thanks again

Re: Regeneration history?
Att 6, middle of the page it says 116km since last regen, average 245km / regen for the last 10. So it appears to be regenning, but given you are so far over the limit, I think it's possible the DPF has broken up and is letting soot through.

Re: Regeneration history?
You need a bot of Windolene on that screen!
But yes, either you doing very short journeys or the filter capacity is reduced or as Richard says the filter may be damaged internally.

Re: Regeneration history?
Thanks for highlighting this. I was about to try and do a manual regen, but I guess i would be wasting my time!?RichardW wrote: 06 Feb 2023, 11:19 Att 6, middle of the page it says 116km since last regen, average 245km / regen for the last 10. I changed the DPF just over 20k miles ago as I was having problems with things then. but the problems then I think turned out to be more connected with turbo seal and a hole in the pipe that goes from the EGR valve, whereby at the time I ran into too many problems and it simply went to a garage.
The car has always (occasionally) shown "Risk of filter clogging" when acceleration is applied, even when it only had around 30k miles - its now done in total around 120k
So, not sure if the problem is the DPF
Any ideas what I should do next based on this information?

Re: Regeneration history?
Hi again...
I did a manual regen and just took it for a drive - I hammered it trying my best to get the fault "Risk of filter blocking" and no way was I able to get it to come on
The regen lasted around 35 min in total but was at 3000 revs only for around the first 5 min then the rest of it the car was just idling - which supprised me as I couldnt understand why it would do this???
I let it finish and a message came up saying to turn the ignition on again, this was odd because the engine was still running. I turned the engine off, and switched the ignition on.. but the diagbox simply would not say or do anything different after this, and I simply had to unplug it?? Not sure if I did something wrong? but the filter clogging warning light never came on, so im guessing something worked!
The other thing I have realised! is that the sticker under the bonnet for its emissions max value of 0.51 is possibly off a newer vehicle, as it was front end accident damaged when I acquired it, and the part where the sticker is may have been changed. Ive looked in the log book to see if it tells me, but I cant find anything, apart from the section V.7: CO2 (g/km) which says 139 G/KM. Just called local citroen dealer, but they cant help either! does anyone here know, how or where to find this information?

Re: Regeneration history?
Be aware that if there are specific faults detected by the engine ECU, then as part of it's engine protection strategy, it can and will prevent manual / forced regeneration by a diagnostic tool. It seems from what you have said that this is the case.
As for your other question regarding the emissions, the MOT testers don't go by stickers on the car - they have the correct emission limits from the vehicle data when the car was registered. So all the emissions data is already on the computer.
I would get a proper diagnostic done on the vehicle to see if there are any faults recorded. Again, of the revs are being limited, going for an Italian tune up will be pointless too if there is a fault preventing this and limiting the power.

I would have thought that diagbox would have showed a message if this was the case and stopped the countdown. Can you please tell me how long is normal for high revs (3000rpm) when you manually regen?

Re: Regeneration history?
Yes, I was just pointing out to check that there are no fault codes showing up that could prevent forced regeneration.
Ok, so I can't comment on the label but the opacity limit is shown on many vehicles on the metal plate with the VIN etc. However, you need to be aware that there are more stringent tests in place now.
As of May 2018 the following limits are in force:
So it looks like because that sticker is there, you have failed as it states 0.51. However if you look in the table, your 2012 vehicle would fall into the 'on or after 1st July 2008' category if they couldn't find the plate or sticker, so would have passed as the limit is 1.5!
So they probably used the sticker as it was in plain sight, but if it wasn't there.....

Re: Regeneration history?
Thanks very much for this information! Its going to look very suspicious if I remove the sticker now! I've spoke again with the local citroen dealer, and waiting for them to get back to me. I guess I am going to need some proof that what I am saying (the front end of vehicle is off a different/newer model)!GiveMeABreak wrote: 07 Feb 2023, 00:19 Yes, I was just pointing out to check that there are no fault codes showing up that could prevent forced regeneration.

PS: do you know how long a forced reneneration should last on high revs (3000rpm)? I had run scan for faults prior to doing regen and there were no faults apart from the P1490

Re: Regeneration history?
It's presumably a DV6C engine, so the limit is 0.51 anyway - my 2013 3008 is this. If it is only just scraping through 1.5 then there is something wrong with it - if the DPF is working then it should be almost undetectable. Where did the replacement come from? If the emissions are high, then soot is getting past it, so it's either broken or doesn't fit properly.

Can you pop your VIN up for us, so Richard and I can see exactly what you have (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

Re: Regeneration history?
The VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Regarding the forced regen yesterday.. I found out today speaking to a citroen garage that I had only partly completed it.. and it takes around 2+ hours to fully complete.
Anyways, I took it to a garage and they put it on their emissions tester, result 1.21 which is still well over. and I have found out that it is as Richard said 0.51 - If Id have known all this idve taken the dam sticker off - hindesight is great!
The garage recommended taking it to a dpf specialist, so I went and Im supposed to take the original dpf there in morning to have it cleaned (£100) its just been sitting outside in back garden near garage ever since i took it off (01/10/21) or 20k miles ago and the lug for the pipe is broken off it so that will need welding back on - maybe another £20? They did seem rather confident from experience 2000% was their words - of doing numerse taxi's that by cleaning it, it will solve my problem! however, ive had bad reports from other people that have had them cleaned and they didnt last long before needed replacing?
The replacement dpf I got from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162849752485
Now, here is my delema - should I purchase another cheap dpf again probably from cats 2 u or have cleaned the original thats been sitting outside in the garden for around 18 months?
