New Old Stock Original Timing Belt

As the title suggests, it's about a new Timing belt kit , Citroen Original , but from old stock , from 2012.
No problem at all with the rollers, but what's your thoughts on the belt itself (Dayco 9637514080 Isoran 146 RPP Plus)?
It was inside the box and looks ok, like any other new.
I've got opinions that it's no problem (from mechanics i do trust), but already saw some people suggesting it would be better to get a new one, from recent stock, specially if it is an interference engine. (2.2Hdi, is, i'm pretty sure)
Gates suggests maximum 8 years shelf life for Belts. Could not find anything about Dayco
Let me know your thoughts :)

I wouldn't risk such a critical component and would invest in a new belt. As you say, the rollers and tensioner will be fine...

The cost of a new cambelt of known, good quality is a fraction of an engine rebuild.

I believe, on lightly used vehicles that do not reach the recommended cambelt change interval on distance travelled the change interval is advised at 5 years so 12 years is pushing it beyond any wise limits.

All PSA diesels, to my belief, are 'interference' engines...

Rare to find any diesel that would be non-interference: high compression ratio means piston at top of its stroke has to be pretty close to the underside of the head.

To be honest, rare to find many non-interference petrols nowadays, mostly 4 valves per cylinder, again generally increasing compression ratios, that gap at top of the stroke is pretty small for fully open valves to miss a piston.


I agree wholeheartedly with Jim and your thoughts, tensioners absolutely fine, buy a belt on its own to put with what you have then nothing to worry about :)

Since new one costs 20€ I would definetly not take the risk.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts. They are aligned with mine, and another thing is that even if nothing happens on the whole life of the belt , it would always be on my head , and i could not fully enjoy the car.
After i got in Citroen Dealer the price of an original kit, i realized that for the value i got the New Old Stock kit , i could get a new belt , and the value continues being good overall.
So a got a Gates belt.
Above all i get peace of mind & tranquility

A good outcome, it would niggle away at me too! :-D
