Gearbox Query

Unread post by yannbeam »

Hi. Is it possible to tell what car a gearbox came from using the 6 digit code ? I recently ordered a replacement box for one of my cars and they have sent me a different one to the one I ordered. The box I have is from a Peugeot 307 cc NO 20DM43. The one they have sent me is 20DM68 which they claim is the same box, but it says Citroen C4 on the box ! In the advert the code was the same as my original one. This is in a track car so the vin number is useless !
Thanks.

I've moved this out of the Official Parts Request Thread.

... Not really as gearboxes are used across vehicles and although they may be a '5 speed manual gearbox' for example, they may well have different code markings on the box which can mean variations in the gear ratios.

This in itself can throw out other systems.

We can tell you what gearbox part number you need from your VIN, from which you can search on, but it's not practical for us to call up 100s of PSA vehicle variants to check the gearbox markings to be honest.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

20DM43, 20DM68

We could do with a resource to decode / catalogue these digits, they are so frequently quoted by second hand parts sellers, but I'm yet to see any meaningful data as to what code equals what ratios inside. Would be so handy! :)

I think the last two digits might refer to the diff ratio code as these vary a lot depending on engine, year, trim level etc. The gearboxes themselves were used in various vehicles and the code doesn't necessarily apply to a specific vehicle.

Didn't realise I posted this in the part numbers section. My bad !
I thought that would be the case. I'll just have to take it apart and figure out if its any use.
Thanks
