Debadging Citroen C5 Mk1 (Tourer)

Unread post by yoseff »

As the title indicates, it is about removing all those badges (Except the Double Chevron - That i intent to cover in black or "carbon" Vinil)
Already removed the "Hdi". Citroen and C5 were going next , but as i was putting the fishing line behind the first letter , it seemed to have hit some stronger point. Before I go further, can someone who already did that to a Mk1 C5 , confirm if it will leave some holes in the trunk?
Thanks in Advance

They may be glued on with thin adhesive strips behind the badges... I can't state that as a fact, only that Citroen have been using this method for attaching badges to many vehicles in its range for the last 40 odd years...

If that is the case, the adhesive is very tenacious and will ne3ed great care to remove without damaging the underlying paint...

Yup, the HDi letters was just like that , and i was able to remove them (After polish , no marks on the paint). Also already removed from a Xantia and was just glued. I'd like to be sure that there is no hole behind the badges before uncover it

It would be strange, as it is separated letters that one (or more) had some pin on a hole.

Let's see if someone in the forum already did it to an Mk1 C5 Tourer that can share experience on it :)

Heat the badge with a hair-dryer (or park it in the sun as you're in Portugal  ), and use dental floss to break the adhesive.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but i think i found my answer by looking to buy the badges...
In this listing it seems visible some pins on the rear of the badges, so if i remove them, almost sure i'll end with some holes in the boot... :(
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184755253321 ... media=COPY
Probably i will not want to mess with them
Will either put vinil or paint the badges.

If I were you, I wouldn't allow myself to be deterred from debarking the tailgate because of the pins, it's only the C & 5 that have the pins on them, the word Citroen is clear. So removing the badges would only leave two holes in the tailgate, and I'd wager that both holes could be filled with about the same amount of body filler as you put toothpaste on your toothbrush in the morning. It'd then be easier to paint the filler on those two holes than it would be to remove, prep, paint, and refit all the badges?

It seems that the C and the N (from Citroen) also have pins... (Have a look on the pics on the ebay listing, where the letters are seen from behind)
My tailgate is in excellent condition , almost with mirror finish, so i don't want to paint it. (need to find how to put pics in here  )
Some small black sticker could also be a solution to hide the holes, but first i'll try to put vinil on the lettering (Without disassemble them)

Those citro engineers could think better and not put holes on the tailgate just for the lettering :x
On the Xantia the result was really clean

Thanks.
It was a lot of work with the polisher machine, wax, ceramic coating, but the result was pleasant - and the paintwork originally was quite bad :)

It's far from perfect, and it has some marks that i couldn't sort out. The front bumper is the worst part of it, and probably i'll have to paint it in the near future. Roof has also some "bird marks" , but only new paint can sort that out.
But overall , it's quite shiny for an 19 years old car :D
