2006 C4 coupe key programming

Unread post by Orbit Motors »

Evening,

A C4 (2006 1.6 petrol) that I am currently doing up to sell after purchasing at an auction came with only one key, and it is not the type that I was expecting.

It is the slightly older style non-folding key with a Valeo blade, no buttons and a tiny PCF 7936 AS transponder chip inside.

I have Diagbox / Lexia, and I am under the assumption programming can be done, but I am at a loss as to which replacement key and chip I need to buy. It would be nice to have one with buttons of some kind as of course the lock is only on the nearside which is rather inconvenient. There is a Citroen issued card with some sort of key code on it to hand.

How would I go about resurrecting a second key, programming it and keeping both this one and the new one working?

Sorry if this has been addressed before but most stuff I can find seems to relate to the flip style keys and I am a bit lost.

Thanks in advance
Cheers,
Miles

You can ask Marc look up what keys were originally supplied, based on VIN. Probably 3 button folding fob, and with the part number you should be able to find a compatible blank replacement which you can program for the car with your Lexia.

You want a 3 button ID46 7936 ASK frequency.
Programming is simple with Lexia as you have the code card. You just program all of the keys at the same time any not done at the same time get deleted.

Sounds similar to the Fiat procedure which I'm familiar with, should be simple enough then, thank you!

So it would still allow for use of the key I currently have assuming that it is present when I do the programming? Read that some chips can only be programmed once before being useless.

Vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] for reference just incase.

Thanks again!

Struggling to find any 3 button key with a 7936 chip in it, even the blank ones with no buttons seem hard to come by!

Is a 7961 chip compatible? As I was expecting the key would look like this one. Still shows ID46 and has the correct Valeo type VA2 blade

Correct

Some chips lock to the original car it was programmed to & they can only be used on that car. ID46's generally lock to the car however there are some aftermarket chips & remotes that can be re written to different cars over & over again.

7961 will work no problem just make sure the frequency is ASK, don't think the listing states anywhere if it is ASK or FSK. Dont go by the sellers fitment list as i know this wont work on half the models listed on it.

The dealer price for an uncut remote is over £150

Citroen Part number for a replacement fob with key cut to original is part 6554TE and is £215.40 inc. VAT.
