305 gearbox.
Does anyone know if a gearbox from a 1.9d 205 will fit a 305 1.9d ?

Re: 305 gearbox.
Physically, they should do if they are both BE1/5 'boxes and both similar XUD engines...
Gear ratios and final drive ratios might be different though... It might knock speedo calibration out a bit.
You might be able to do a useful improvement and fit a BE3/5 'box but be aware reverse gear selection is different between the two...
Be aware also that a BE 'box from a non-turbo D will be a 'push' clutch and if you source a 'box from a Turbo D it may have a 'pull' clutch and a slightly different release fork... You should be able to swap over the relevant bits...
Can I ask why you are contemplating a swap?

Re: 305 gearbox.
Cheers Jim but I've managed to get a box from a 305 after UPS lost it for 4/5 weeks. Thinking it was gone I bought one off Ebay for £30 that, after fitting, turned out to be a 4 speed with a crunchy 3rd gear. Aargh! Then the UPS one turned up out of the blue so that's now in. I knew where this box came from and it's a good one.
There is something your knowledge of Cit's might help me with. I have a 94 Cit Xantia 1.9d engine in my 305 and I had a head gasket go. Head off, head no good. Tried to source a head and nearest I could get was from a DW8 which fits but has different injectors, Delphi, not Bosch as pump is. It works, sort of. Tick over is a bit all over the place, power is down especially low down. I'm thinking there is an imbalance between the pump and injectors. Do you know if it's fixable or will I have to put up with it.

Re: 305 gearbox.
Good to hear you sourced a decent gearbox
Crunchy synchros are all too common due to the archaic nature of the synchro cones and how easily they can be damaged, especially if the wrong oil is used...
The Bosch and Delphi injectors are different and incompatible as they have different opening pressures... Swap to the original injectors and I'll wager all will be a lot better...
The DW8 head is fine in itself but the cam may not be... If you still have the cam from the original head, use that too. You'll likely need to check valve clearances and change shims but between the two heads you should have enough to play with...
Turbo and non-turbo cams are definitely incompatible...
Let us know how it goes
