Hi all.
My C5 petrol, it's alternator has stopped working.
I have checked the engine and cabin fuses and maxi fuses, all are okay.
There is a multimeter reading between battery -neg and the alternator lead+, exactly the same (11.6 currently ) as over the battery +& -.
So there is another type of fuse to search for?
Also, it is the alternator only.
My battery does hold its charge no problem. 13 volts took me 75 miles until all the low power warning lights came on. Overnight stay on full charge and 75 miles return.
Some speeding was involved. Ha!
My alternator with fusible link?

Re: My alternator with fusible link?
Alternator failure is usually brushes or regulator unless it's very high mileage. It's an assembly available at most motor factors and on Ebay.

Re: My alternator with fusible link?
If checking the alternator output you should also check it with your meter negative lead directly on the alternator casing too, If you have volt drop on the earth strap between the engine & body this can give the impression of a low alternator output.
Have you tried tapping (not demolishing) the casing of the alternator with a hammer with the engine running? this sometimes (temporarily) springs it back into life if its worn or sticking brushes.

Ta for replies.
The regulator. I don't have the skill or tools to remove the alt, so it's into a garage this week.
And no reading with meter on alt casing.
Earth strap is good too as i fitted a 2nd from cylinder head to body, just to be certain.
If it's an honest garage, will return to here with its location!
