I'm pretty sure it's a small box located under the passenger seat.

Hi,
My guess is that the controller is in the drivers door.
I tried to find it in my XM, and deduced from older posts that it was in a door, and most likely to be in the passenger door. When I took the passenger door apart, I found no controller, but I did cure my doorlock problems anyway.
cheers

Oh well.
Let us know if you find it...
On a BX I once had, the control unit was in the centre console between the gearstick and the bottom ashtray or radio or whatever.
cheers

My central locking module gave up on me on my series 1 XM. It is under the steering wheel (opposite side of fuse box). Mine is UK/left hand drive or is it right?. If you open that compartment, there will be another set of screws/bolts (12mm) which secure an aluminium/metal 'shelves'. The module is a longish one secured to that metal shelves.
Try locking/unlocking, then you can identify from the noise which box it is. Trouble is you won't find parts for it so I installed a Japanese alternative but took sometime to identify which wire is for what.
Good luck,
Charles
