Xantia HDI cold start

Unread post by froggy »

Hi, my Xantia HDI, only just started this morning ! it was -9 in Dymock. I am guessing it is time to change the heater plugs ? my dear old TD, preheat and away she goes ! never lets me down. any thoughts ? should new heater plugs be my first 'port of call' ? thanks in advance Terry.

I wouldn't give up on your heater plugs just yet. At those temperatures every diesel car is going to struggle to some degree. Try parking in a more sheltered spot in cold weather and trickle charge your battery overnight. It does help.

No probs. Batteries don't like freezing weather either. Charging them lightly heats them as well.

If your battery is healthy, putting the sidelights on for a few mins will do this nicely and help it start.

That works. The current is in the opposite direction but the effect is the same. Just send a prayer to the Battery Gods first. The length of time it is on makes the biggest difference.
