Code P0500

Unread post by Front »

Hello everyone! So my Peugeot 206 1.6 hdi from 2005 is showing me a P0500 error code which from my research is the speed sensor. ABS, ESP and speedometer don't work.

From what I saw online the sensor should be on top of the gearbox but I can't find it anywhere.

Thanks in advance!!

It should be on top of the RH (or LH as you view from looking in from the bonnet) final drive housing, just above where the long driveshaft enters...

Access to it can be a bit tricky and due to its exposed position don't funny condemn it until you've disconnected its plug and given it a good cleanup, both the plug and the socket it plugs into on the sensor... It does tend to collect a bit of road muck and a bit of oil..

If you do have to change it, be prepared for a bit of oil leakage... It's not a bad idea to drain off a pint or so before starting. If you take care to avoid contamination and drain into a clean vessel it can go back in when the job is done...

Yes, that's the one :D

They're common across a load of PSA vehicles and gearboxes so obtaining one won't be a problem. Be aware there are two and three pin varieties but the three pin one is the most common.
