Engine warning light

Unread post by Rachwillo »

Hi all
My ds3 67 plate which ha sreached just over 35000 miles is now showing an engine fault repair warning sign... if comes on twice in steaight after wach other after I start my engine and move off... the light then stays off for the rest of the journey and the car runs like normal.
I'm disabled and rsalky struggling financially but need my car for hospital trips and shopping etc
I know once some cads his a certain millage that they show this sign as a fault when there is no fault or repair needed and I'm hoping this is the case...
Surely my car would shut down and not drive if there was an engine repair needed...
Help and advice desperately needed ....
Thanks in advance

You haven't mentioned if it's a diesel or petrol...

Secondly are you doing relatively short journeys?

Having just bought a DS3 recently, and thus reasonably familiar with the handbook, there are a multitude of reasons that may illuminate the engine management or Service warnings. p27 onward in the handbook will help you narrow it down.

As the light illuminates initially, then extinguishes fairly quickly, I would be thinking about a transient sensor error that may be caused by low battery voltage - possibly one of the things Marc is thinking of when asking if the car is only doing short journeys. The recent cold weather will exacerbate a battery reaching the end of its life, or not having the chance to replenish itself when very short journeys are undertaken.

Halfords will test the battery for free - https://www.halfords.com/car-repairs/ca ... TTERY.html - though of course they do this not out of charity, but because they expect to be able to sell you a new one.
