406 stereo system - loud bang

When it has been swithced on for a few minutes i get a loud bang (like a brick hitting the windscreen!!) - it only happens once each time a few minutes after I switch on. Any ideas. Also when I put ear to drivers door speaker on low voulume it seems crackly - others are not.

does the bang come from the speakers, the stereo, or from inside the dash etc???
Most likely cause I wuld of thought is a bad earth somewhere but would of thought it would only happens once then the stereo would be knackered.

I have just bought a 406 coupe with exactly the same problem. It sounds like someone punching the rear window, I think it might be the rear speaker blown but any advice would be appreciated.
