Hi
Anyone got any recommendations on tow ball mounted bike carriers?
Looking for a 3 bike option and obviously most people say Thule but they are cripplingly expensive so wondered if there are any other options
Seen some Halfrauds ones that get good online reviews but they don't seem to come up as fitting my DS5 but I was thinking it's towball mounted then would hopefully be a pretty much universal fitting?
Hopefully some bikers might have some experience? It would be for mountain bikes, non electric ones
Cheers
Dave

My son has one that he uses on my car. I'll ask him but he is probably in Scotland mountain biking today.

He says it is a Thule and is probably like the second one in this advert: https://www.thule.com/en-gb/bike-rack
Belongs to his mate. They usually use mate's van and he says that it may be for sale.
He also has said that you should be certain that your bike fits on the rack. His latest one barely fits whereas his others are OK.

The official Citroen DS5 accessories list a 3 bike carrier:
It is in fact a Thule one and Citroen currently sell these for £170.20 direct from Citroen VAT inclusive.

Give forum member Michel a shout. He has a tow-ball mounted carrier, so he could let you know which one and what he thinks about it.

Re: DS5 Sport 2013 - Tow ball mounted cycle carriers
I bought one of these cheap 3 bike mounts from Ebay and, while it works well enough with the grandkid's bikes mounted and strapped in place, I find the mounting clamp marks up the ball as it bites into it. It does not have any friction material between the ball and the metal clamp so it is metal to metal contact and has to be very tight to stay stable. I would not recommend this type of bike carrier.
I am on the lookout for a tow bar plate mount type now.

It looks like a Chinese knock off of the Thule version.... and I suspect the Thule is far superior as I can't see them making a duff product and risking their reputation.

Re: DS5 Sport 2013 - Tow ball mounted cycle carriers
Thanks everyone, real world experience always appreciated
Preferably one of the ones where the wheels are mounted into the tracks I think but those are the ones that seem to go into crazy money. Seen the Halfords versions of these but wondered how they compared to the likes of Thule because whilst they are top of their game I think they deffo ramp up the rate for their name a bit too
