DS5 Sport 2013 - slight oily smell in cabin

Unread post by Cupra to DS5 »

Hi All,
As above, I'm getting a slight oily smell in the cabin when driving and it's worse with the heater/air con on

It's not horrendous but when you know it's happening your nose tends to go searching for it constantly!

Recently had a full major service so need to double check to see if any filters were changed etc

Took it back to the garage that did the service and they went all over the engine bay and couldn't find any visible leaks, even had it up on the ramps to look underneath to check for any leaks and nothing obvious.

Wondering what it could be? Could it be a loosely fit filter or a filter with some oil on it maybe

Air con runs as standard with the recirculating mode

Any ideas?

Cheers

Dave

This can be the result of spilled oil (from the service) on an exhaust manifold pipe, that is being noticed when the pipe gets hot as it burns off. The other culprit I'm aware of is oil leaking from injectors and causing smoke - but this was on the renowned 1.6 HDi that needed constant injector clamp tightening.

See if it dissipates after a good run when it gets burnt off, but I think that's your biggest clue - post servicing and a messy oil fill.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Which reminds me that I had that on my first C5!
Injectors out and the seats cut and new seals and fire washers fitted.

I got the same sort of smell after getting the diesel filter changed on mine (diesel basically is oil). Your major service should have included this, it's a messy job.

It went away after probably 50 miles, presumably after whatever spilt got burnt away.

Don't worry unless it doesn't go away!
