Struggling to fit new crankshaft seal

Hi folks,

I've got a 2007 207 and I'm replacing the front crankshaft seal... I've replaced many of these over the years but never come up against one so fiddly... no matter what I try the bottom edge always goes in about 1/8" touching the oil pump chain... is there a nack to getting this in straight.. I've even tried using a large socket to drive it in evenly but the bottom edge still goes in too far... I've tried doing it very gingerly with a wooden drift to no avail..
Is there a nack to this I'm missing?

I feel your pain having replaced one recently on my Saxo... Your engine is very similar to the Saxo TU despite there being a few years between them...

I used a large mandrel significantly larger then the seal diameter and tapped it in very gently and with great care. Even then it was not 100% even but that's proved not to be a problem...

It struck me the seal is not a tight fit in its housing - certainly the old one popped out very easily... Why PSA did not cast in a little locating lip is beyond belief...

I believe that if the unevenness is not too great it'll sort itself out after a few thousand rotations of the crankshaft... That they are not a tremendously tight fit might aid this process...

I'm not planning to find out until the cambelt is next due a swap

I had tried that method originally but struggled...
What you said made me revisit it... some months ago I replaced the bearings on my LG washing machine and remembered I kept the old bearings.. the outer race was a perfect fit just over size to the new seal and enabled it to go in straight. I couldn't get a perfect flush fit, it was sitting proud by about 1mm due to the rubberised coating on the seal absorbing the blows but I'm sure it'll be fine.
