Hi all . I have inherited a Clio from another garage that has given up .19,000 miles on clock, Car breaks down randomly with severe misfire.(fault code misfire on multiple cylinders )AA swapped around 1and 2 coils and ran ok again ,Sometime will start again and run on all 3 cylinders other time misfire persistent and saying No 1 cylinder , history is new NGK plugs ,New Bosch coils, came to me to try and sort out . So far I have cleaned all wiring plugs , checked other garage work taken for drive of 6 miles with snap on modi’s on data screen the part I’m concerned with is combustion misfire counters car idles fine but driving between 1200 to 1800 rpm in 3rd gear @25 mph also most gears in that rpm range I can feel a hesitation and misfire counters are as follows after 6 miles No 1 /1400 No 2 / 18000( ain’t added a o) No 3 / 5700 .. above 2000 rpm the car doesn’t hesitate and performs ok .so removed intake, looking at intake valves they are very clean and do look a bit
Hot in colour , swapped No 1/2 injectors refitted manifold etc took for another drive and misfire counter for No2 still high , checked coil amp draw with low amp probe and all are 8.5 amps . Today replaced crank sensor and still same results No2 high misfire ..2 questions ( that ive had previously on other vehicles and found to be problems ) 1) does this engine use hydraulic tappets/ lifters( if not could be tight clearances ) and 2 does the crank sensor pick up from the flywheel direct casting, or does flywheel have a pressed steel plate with “fingers”that could be damaged possibly from new ? Oh also fuel trims are ok and fuel pressure @2.8
Bar all the time ( had gauge taped to screen )car hasn’t broke down on me and I’ve covered 30 miles in total .. thanks for reading and hope someone can point me in right direction
Regards
Ian
