Morning all, my 508's gear cable snapped, new ones arrived (without the gear knob) & then eventually the new gear knob arrived. According to Peugeot it's the correct part to match the gear cables & fit the stick & collar.
To select reverse on the car you have to pop it up & to the left, the issue is that the gear knob doesn't fit the collar of the stick, so when you select reverse the knob just comes off, there is no way of securing said knob unlike the old one with a bolt which doesn't fit. Universal knob's don't fit either.
Any one else have this issue or a solution?
Cheers

Re: 508 Gear Cables/Gear Knob not fitting
It depends on which 508you have, the year and the gearbox type as the are multiple options.
It will help if you have the original packing with the label on so we can see the parts reference and then pop your VIN up (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).
Most of the later gearboxes have pop on gear knobs, but they need to be pushed down firmly, so you may not have it on properly.

Thanks, there is no way to secure it when it's on, it's as if it's it's designed not for the pop up gear box

Ok. I've just had a check and my 6 speed manual is a little different to yours. It seems that your 6 Speed manual has the gear knob secured on with a tie wrap!

Thanks, like a cable tie?
There is nowhere to fix it to though. This is the part number of the gear knob 98193765zd

Re: 508 Gear Cables/Gear Knob not fitting
That’s your problem then, completely wrong part. That is only for several Peugeot vehicles, none of which is for the 508,
We can provide part numbers but that requires a membership upgrade as we are charged for this info, see this thread:

Unless you are going to require any other official part numbers or parts diagrams here, it may be better to just order one in from your dealer, otherwise links for upgrading are detailed in the thread above.

Re: 508 Gear Cables/Gear Knob not fitting
The issue is that this is the correct part according to Peugeot parts department. Thanks for your help.

Re: 508 Gear Cables/Gear Knob not fitting
Not according to your VIN it's not. It is essential to use the VIN (we use the same system as official dealers) as the different gearboxes available have different knobs for the gearbox control and that part is not listed under ANY 508. I can't help you any further I'm afraid.
