407 V6 petrol air bag light and connectors

My 407 V6 petrol has recently started to flash up the air bag light and then sometimes clears.

I assume its a connector issue (probably drivers side).

Is there a diagram of where they are / guide as to how to get to the connectors under the seat (I assume) as its pretty tight under there to get both hands in.

In my old Rover 75 the easiest way was to unbolt the 4 seat holding bolt and tip it forwards.

Any diagram of where the air bag connectors are on the drivers seat (RHD) ?

The light comes on and off randomly so assume its a bad connection.

The fault code will still remain in the memory even though the light has gone off.

So had another airbag fault come up last night so fired up Diag but no error found.

A air bag error even came up (and went away) during running global test and still did not register any faults. Have I missed a page ?

I did notice some "not configured" values on some items in SAC_AUTOLIV Front airbags pages which seems strange, eg Status of drivers steering column airbag, status of drivers seat position sensor, Status of Passenger air bag deactivation switch status.

Hence I guess my original question - any pics of where the connectors / easy ways to get to them are so I call pull and refit at my leisure I'm sure its just a dodgy 18 year old connection

i'm pretty sure on the 407 the pre tensioners are in the inertia reels rather than the stalks like the older systems, these dont tend to suffer from connection issues.
If you have lateral airbags in the seats these will have an under seat connection. Accessible airbag wiring or connectors are usually brightly coloured orange or yellow.
Really strange you dont have a fault code even though the light was on, I would maybe try it through PP2000 rather than diagbox.

And be aware that your vehicle does not have a driver's knee airbag that is attached under the steering column, so that is probably correctly configured, so is the option for Airbag deactivation - which is also not supplied. Although you may have a manual key operated switch, so I would leave the configuration for this as it is unless something has been changed.

So the airbag fault turned into a ABS / ESP fault which Diag reported was the rear driver side ABS sensor.

I pulled it off and checked it and it seems okay (both at the connector at the fuel tank pump under the rear seat and the wheel itself) but I thought I would do the right thing and buy a new set of ABS sensors ( the rubber did look a bit perished and the car is almost 18 years old).

I also took the battery (only 6 month old) off overnight after letting the ECU / BMS shut down.

So, a few days later of driving around with the ESP / ABS warning lights on, they suddenly cleared - no faults for the last week, no air bag warning, nada.

Seems like the BMS / ECU can tell when you bought parts and annoy you by clearing the fault.

I guess there will be a next time (but I suspect dodgy connectors)

I'm not sure it's that intelligent but on some earlier vehicles such as the Xantia, some faults would clear after something like ten instances of the fault condition no longer being present. Maybe the 407 is similar...

You may find that although all the warnings have cleared, the old faults may still be logged in the ECU's memory so it'll be worth a quick session of diagnostics just to clear the memories and confirm all is indeed good.
