C4 Headlight Adjustment Problem

Unread post by ma701apm »

Hi all, Ive had this 2005 1.6 HDI VTR+ C4 for about 10 years and I regularly visit these forums for advice, so thank you all.

My C4 has failed its MOT on the headlights being too low and that the headlight adjustment doesnt work. It did work when I first got the car but about 2 or 3 years after owning it I had a front end collision and had to replace the bumper and headlights then another few years after that I have done the clutch and i seem to remember there is a very tight electrical loom that goes by the starter motor and I hope i havent damaged any wiring.

I've tried changing the bulb in the ashtray but it all seems dead. is there a wiring diagram for the internal lights and switches? my glovebox light doesnt work, the ashtray light doesnt work, the cigarette lighter works but the light on the side of it does not. and of course the headlight adjustment doesnt work. I have tried changing the bulbs and testing all the fuses both inside the glove box and the engine bay and everything seems good.

Im totally stuck. Thanks in advance

Try Fuse F7 in the BSI (Passenger compartment Fusebox), and check Fuse F11 (physically test these, don't check visually).

Thanks for the advice. I put a multimeter across the tops of the fuses whilst still in the fuse box this morning and they all came back ok. I will remove them and check them individually this evening. Do you have a wiring diagram for this circuit? I cant believe that they would stop the lights adjusting because of the ashtray bulb!

I'll need your VIN for that as they are specific. Please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

Thanks very much for that. I have checked the fuses you mentioned and changed the bulb in the ashtray and it seems to have done the job! Please could I ask where you get these diagrams from? I would like to be able to get them myself in future because they are so handy.

Just found this thread while looking for info on the wife's C4 headlight adjuster. It was the bulb in the illuminated ring around the 12v socket on centre console, Not available as a separate part according to my local dealer. So managed to pull it apart and fit a bulb I had in my box of odd bulbs...

Which bright spark at Citroen thought it was a great idea for the leveller switch to stop working when an unrelated part fails......
Thanx for the tips found in the above thread... without which I would still be under the dashboard till doomsday !!
Thanx to all the admins & knowledgeable people that make this the best forum on the interweb. BUT COME BACK MARC , We miss you! =D> =D> =D>
