About to emigrate....

I'll be emigrating to the UK in Feb '23 and I'm fairly certain, after substantial research, that I'd very much like to get a C3 picasso, in diesel.

My family will be joining me several months later as I've been elected to head into the wilds of the UK and secure the kindness of the natives, lodging, transport and food security of some sort. Any need for weapons, or will the correct alliances negate this need?

The C3 Picasso ticks boxes for me: it's frugal, seats 5 in comfort, road tax is less than a meal and it seems to offer simple access for the home mechanic. And it is a fine looking vehicle; unlike say the A class Merc, Renault Modus or Nissan Note.

Any gotchas with the vehicle or fuelling choice?

Comparing to South Africa, its cold & damp (and getting more so), our summers last about 3 weeks, one in May, one in July and another in August.

As for the car, I see you already have a C3, so things should be similar, even the steering wheel will be on the rightside.... (literally)
Depends on age of car if they fit the bill of "simple access for the home mechanic"

Be prepared for things to be farer away, our distances are in miles, and a mile is 1.5 times longer than one of your 'Kilomiles'

If you intend to be close to one of the big cities, London especially a diesel will cost you dearly in the low emissions zones with daily charges for entering.

My youngest worked with a South African girl in Ethiopia, clearing up after the 'plane crash there and she said the same, found driving terrifying.

I can't comment on your car choices as I'm very much last century in that respect

I see you have a Suzuki Alto.. My youngest daughter has one too although hers is called a Nissan Pixo... It's a 2009 model and by my standards very new and modern! It's been good for her and only ever consumed an alternator and a battery...

Against that, compared to my Saxo, it's a bloody awful drive and bounces all over the place but it does the job as a nimble and nippy city car superbly...

Welcome from me too Dean, I echo Jim's comments about my South African connections too. I had a business partner for 3 years from Zimbabwe and he eventually realised that in our business at the time, electronic security, he could make more money in S. Africa than here because of the rising demand. So he went in 2005 and now has a very successful company in Johannesburg employing 20+ engineers who are under consistent demand due to the crime issues there.
